It's hot folks. Almost cryin hot like I used to say when I was in the Army. Anyone who was in the military remember those hot days on the black top working on vehicles in the motor pool? You know...that hot.
What to do...oh what to do. Well first of all my central Texas friends...it is time to make sure that you are well hydratedand that means drinking plenty of H2O. That's water for those of you who aren't chemists. Now, I know some of you are thinking that you get plenty of that H2O stuff in your Beer, but alas it's not to be. What?! Yep, that's right, medical science has since proved that alcohol of any sort will actually dehydrate you rather than the opposite. I am not saying not to have a beer or two, but do keep it safe and make sure to drink WATER during these hot times. How much should you drink depends on what
you are doing and your body composition. There are thoughts out there that you should drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. Here is a link to a handy quiz that will give you a hint on how much water to drink.
Next you should protect your skin in weather such as this. The skin is the largest organ of your body. I know you heard it was something else, but trust me on this one, it is. I am a Nationally Registered Paramedic so I have had just a touch of training on this. What do you mean you're a Paramedic, I thought you were a Realtor®! I am...but before I was a Realtor® I became a Paramedic so that I could instruct Army Medics at the Department of Combat Medic Training at FT Sam Houston TX. I am nothing if versatile. Anyhoo, back to the subject at hand. Skin..Important...You need to take care of it. The sun will turn your skin into different and sometimes beautiful colors, (Red too!), and that's great. Problem is, is that later on in your life, too much sun exposure can cause you to get skin cancer commonly called Melanoma. This is not a fun thing folks. It can and will turn your skin ugly and may even cut short your life. Use sunscreen to protect yourself. There are plenty of types and strengths of sunscreen, so use it!! Make sure if you are going to be swimming or even sweating a lot that you get a waterproof sunscreen. Reapply the stuff as necessary!
Enjoy the Heat Wave San Antonio and stay cool, hydrated and Stay Safe!
